    Night 1:  Night train to Lao Cai.

    Note: Even though, there is Highway Express to connect Hanoi - Lao cai that shortens the road transfer down to 5.5 hours, we still offer railway transfer. The rail in Vietnam is very much different to those ones in your country then train ride itself is an experience worthy to take. If you dont like train transfer, contact our team to change to road transfer. If road transfer confirmed, the tour omits this night and starts from Day 01.
    Otherwise, our adventure typically starts with a night train ride from Hanoi Railway Station (B Gate - Tran Quy Cap street). Before that, our guide and car transfer will collect you from your hotel or a pick up point. You will need to be at Railway station at least 45 minute prior to departure. Our train often leaves at 20.30 - 21.50. Your cabin is air-conditioning, sharing, 4 berth by default but you can request us to upgrade to private charter.  Overnight in AC soft sleeper cabin.

    Day 1:  Lao Cai – Sapa Town ~ no trekking

    Note: if you decided to travel via Highway Express. You will depart from Hanoi at 7.00AM this day morning and suppose to arrive to Sapa at 12.00PM. Then keep up with the rest part of this Mt. Fansipan trekking adventure
    Arrive in Lao Cai Railway Station at around 5.30 am. Our guide and driver will pick you up at the Station then please pay attention to our "Welcome board". After a brief greeting, we will take 1 hour drive uphill to the beautiful town of Sapa. The road continuously twists and turns along mountain and you will soon get into your eyes a glimpse of the stunning vistas and impressive rice terraces while our tour guide is brief about our forehead challenge. Upon arrival in Sapa Town, we have a hot breakfast in a local restaurant. We spare this day at your own schedule to relax and enjoy the town. Sapa is a lovely and small town to discover on foot. 
     
    Otherwise, you can get involve yourself in some kinds of short hiking trips to warm up and make your muscle get acquaintance to physical activities. Some options we suggest are: 
    - Hiking and climbing to Ham Rong mountain. This is a small mountain in Sapa center, that offers nice panoramic view of the town. About 1,5 hour climbing up and down.
    - Short trek to Ta Phin - Red Dzao village. About 1,5 hour trekking.
    - Longer trek to Ta Van village and homestay here. About 2.5 hours trekking
    All prepare for the amazing challenge of next two days while we is about to trek up to level of 3143m height. Overnight in Sapa.

    Day 2: Sapa – Heavens Gate – Mt Fansipan trek up to 2800m ~ 6hrs hiking up

    In the morning, we travel by car for about 30 minutes toward the Silver Waterfall. You may stop there for photos of the sparkling-silver color stream pouring down from mountains after heavy rains. In dry days, we will skip this because the waterfall is not that spectacular.  We will then drive further to Heaven Gate, the highest road in Vietnam to the sea water level. Right from there, in clear weather, we can see Mt. Fansipan, the highest peak of Indochina mountains as well as enjoy stunning view of the Binh Lu valley. Get ready to take this peak down to our feet.
    Start climbing here while the trek will be relatively moderate until lunchtime. You will cross some streams with cold, clear water. The trekking, water-proof boots are strongly recommended. After 2,5 hours hiking on rocky, dirt trails, we arrive the resting stop at 2200m. Enjoy picnic lunch. With new energy, we get into a harder adventure from here. The trail starts the real mountain hike with climbing up and up and up then finally descending towards the campsite for next 3,5 hours. The trek is truely breath-taking with its all meanings. Right at moments, you feel the exhaust, the magnificent views to Sapa and beautiful landscape of Lai Chau province show up and wipe it all. We will trek to Mt Fansipan's campsite at 2800m ASL in afternoon around 4pm. Now it is time to relax and enjoy a well prepared dinner by our support crew.

    Day 3: 2800m – trek up Mt. Fansipan 3143m – downt to 2200m ~ 6hrs hiking

    After having breakfast, we climb to Fansipan's peak at 3143m, where we can celebrate your victory. You can touch the stone flagged this is the highest place of Vietnam and Indochina as well. Don't forget to take a photo here. Standing on the top, we can enjoy the best views to beautiful scenery that none of place in Vietnam can offer: cloud, mountains, valleys, jungles are all created an awesome picture.
    Enjoying your victory for 30 minutes then we start descending. We stop on the way at a nice spot for lunch. In afternoon, we start the hard hiking trip today, which is all the way downhill through rain forest. The climb up consume much of your energy while the climb down request you to stay very high focus. This part of our mountain conquering tour requires a great concentration to step on steep trail until we meet the campsite at 2200m ASL. Here we spend another night in basic lodge.

    Day 4: 2200m – trek down to Y Linh Ho Village ~ 8hrs hiking

    We wake up in the fresh and pure morning in wild nature, where we can take deep breath before we start the another tough trekking day while keep hiking down to the slopes. We need you very concentrating and keep right space with our tour guide and porters. We descend through well protected forest and after a couple of hours of hiking, we stop for lunch.
    We will then continue our walk descending toward the valley. On the way we will be able to enjoy valley views and beautiful surrounding. We arrive in Y Linh Ho village of Black Hmong minority in the late afternoon. Here we spend the night at a campsite nearby Muong Hoa River.

    Day 5: Y Linh Ho Village – Seo Mi Ty Village ~ 5hrs hiking

    Today’s trek will be mostly uphill until lunchtime in a beautiful part of Hoang Lien National Park - this park includes a vast jungle covering Hoang Lien Son mountain range of which Fansipan is the top peak. On the way, we have many opportunities to enjoy valley views. After hiking for couple of hours, we stop at a nice spot for lunch. The trek part will be softer in the afternoon. But the scenery becomes even more beautiful. We pass by Seo Mi Ty village of Black Hmong minority before we arrive in a campsite, which locates nearby a river outside the village. While porters put up tents and cook dinner, we can take a walk to stretch the legs.

    Day 6: Seo Mi Ty – Den Thang – Ta Trung Ho Village ~ 7hrs hiking

    The hike today takes us through beautiful rice paddies and over old suspension bridges. We will trek on small trail sneaking through rain forest. We arrive in Den Thang village of Black H’mong by noon. Here we stop for lunch either nearby a river or in a local school according to the weather. After lunch, the trek will becomes tough on tiny footpath going up and down, which requires a lot of concentration. We will reach to Ta Trung Ho village of Red Dao minority where we spend the night in local house. Both the valley and the village have just received few foreign visitors. The night will be even more interesting when we are in the wonderful hospitable atmosphere of the Red Dao ethnic group.

    Day 7: Ta Trung Ho - Nam Toong – My Son – Thanh Phu ~ 7hrs hiking

    You are now at the fringe of the rain forest by the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina with its 3143 m, is located in this mountain range. You will start the trek today by ascending to Nam Toong village of Red Dao minority. Here your lunch will be prepared in a local school.
    After lunchtime, you walk descend to the valley where locates My Son village of Xa Pho minority, one of the smallest groups ethnic in Northern Vietnam. From there you take a short walk to Thanh Phu village of Tay minority. Here you spend the night in traditional house of the Tay. You can take a walk to explore local daily life while your dinner will be served with Vietnamese dishes.

    Day 8: Thanh Phu - Nam Cum – Sin Chai ~ 3.5hrs trekking

    Today’s trek will be relatively short and soft. Once leaving Thanh Phu, you follow the trekking route built in the bottom of the valley, which offers the best view to the surrounding mountains. You stop at a nice spot for lunch. After lunchtime, you continue the walk toward Sin Chai village of Red Dao minority where the night will be spent in Red Dao family.

    Day 9: Sin Chai - Nam Ket –Ben Den – Lao Cai ~ 7.5hrs hiking

    You wake up for an early breakfast and repack your luggage for the long trek heading toward Lao Cai. Once you leave Sin Chai, the trip takes you into a fabulously mountainous area, the most remote part of Sapa. En route you meet children’ curious eyes as you are very first tourists passing by. Red Dao ethnic minority inhabits the entire area. You will enjoy the fresh of bamboo forest and jungle until you make a stop at Nam Ket for lunch.
    After lunch, your trek will be mostly downhill. After about half an hour, you will have a opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful view of days over a green valley lying along the Red River. You eventually arrive in Ta Thang village of Tay minority. Here you will be transferred by car to Lao Cai.
    Upon arrrival Lao Cai, we can celebrate our achievement, taking shower and relax until transfer to Lao Cai Railway Station for the night train back to Hanoi.

    Day 10: Back to Hanoi

    Arrive in Hanoi early morning. You may need our support for transfer to airport for next adventures in Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar (Burma) with ActiveTravel.Asia.
    Our very challenging trekking to Mt Fansipan and Hoang Lien Son National Park ends up at Station arrival.

    Trekking grade: Even though the trekking in this tour is about 7-8 hours maximum, with the ascend and descend taking their turns continuously in quite long duration, we decide to upgrade it to Strenuous Grade. This is our highest grade of physical requirement. Activities are of a strenuous nature requiring a high level of fitness and a high degree of competency. We give this grade to the journeys that combine a high level of challenges or need special notices of physical, mental health. This kind of tour will provide a real sustained workout even for fit and experienced adventurers. A high level of fitness with previous experiences is essential. In special cases, we may request your most recent medical report.
    * Suggested preparation: 1 - 1.5 hour of aerobic type exercise daily for 06-08 weeks before your adventure. Hill walking with a pack in variable weather conditions is also strongly recommended.

    All meals, which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. On the trek the support crew will cook meals for us. Since we are far away from the town, the emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious local produce. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirement.

    Train travel
    On our tour, we use first class trains of  King Express, Orient Express, Fanxipan Express or Sapaly Train. These trains all offer Deluxe cabin with clean, comfortable, air – conditioned sleeper.     Hotel and Homestay
    Hotel in Sapa: 3-star Sapa Sunny Mountain hotel or similar
    Our homestay is a real local house by ethnic minorities in remote villages of Sapa. The houses are all very basic conditions with the hosts and his/her family living in and carrying their daily lives of farming and raising cattle. The bedding area is shared for serveral sleepers. You will be provided a private mattress, mosquito net, pillow, warm blanket. We suggest you should carry your own light sleeping bag for more comfort.
    The toilet is often western style (water flushing) and there is hot water running from shower. The toilet and bathroom are not ensuit, and often few steps away from the main house.
     
    The resting site/ camping ground
    On this trip, we will overnight at 2800m in a lodge. The lodge is bricked walls, steel proof with very basic conditions. There are 2 lodges divided into small rooms. Each room is for 12 persons maximum. You may have to share the room with other climbers. Your bedding area is a wooden panel, we will prepare heat insulation, yoga-style mats and winter sleeping bags. There are some toilets, not en-suite in room. No electricity and no hot water running yet.
    In case the lodge overbooked, we will camp. Our camp for the evening will be in a very small clearing on the mountain enclosed by bamboo. You will be provided with twin shared tent, sleeping bag and yoga-style mats.
     
    Our tour guide
    The tour will be guided by one of our tour guides who are experienced in guided trekking tours in Vietnam. He has been carefully trained in this field and is fully licensed in tour guiding by the government. In addition, he has been trained in first-aid by SOS International and he knows how to deal with difficult situations. You will have a great time traveling with him.
     
    Our porters
    Our porters are local ethnic people who are absolutely familiar with the Mt. Fansipan trek as well as other trekking tours in Sapa. The porters carry the food, cooking items, sleeping accessories, water etc for your whole group. Each porter often carry the pack up to 40-50 kg. You will carry your luggage by yourself and so we highly suggest you should try to keep your bags under 5kg as an ideal weight.
     
    The transfers
    In Hanoi, one ATA staff will accompany you to the train to show you your cabin and tell you how to deal with night train traveling in Vietnam. Your car is private.
    In Lao Cai, our guide will meet you at Lao Cai Railway Station in the morning of the first day. He also sees you off at Lao Cai Railway Station on day 3. Your car is private, air-conditioning.
    When you get back to Hanoi on day 4 you can easily find a taxi at the train station.
     
    The trekking day
    A typical trekking day starts at about 8.00 am after breakfast. Lunch times can vary depending on the terrain. We aim to reach the next overnight stop by 4.30 pm. In the day trekking to the peak, we suppose to start earlier to catch up the sunrise, often around 05.30 - 06.00am. During the trek we will have short breaks for rest, snack and photographing.
